The Udonis Haslem Foundation is proud to continue its commitment to empowering young leaders through the BDJ40 Scholarship, an annual educational award designed to support exceptional high school seniors from Miami-Dade and Broward County.
Now in its third year, the BDJ40 Scholarship reflects the Foundation’s mission to give hope to children and families from underserved communities by providing access to opportunities, resources, and support. The scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate academic excellence, community service, resilience, and leadership, particularly those who have overcome significant life challenges on their path to success.
Founded by three-time NBA Champion and Miami native Udonis Haslem, the Foundation’s work is guided by three pillars: Mental Health, UD Kids, and Community Accessibility. Inspired by the values instilled by his late parents—Barbara, Debra, and Johnnie—the scholarship program seeks to uplift students who embody perseverance, compassion, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities.
Each year, the BDJ40 Scholarship awards $15,000 to a deserving high school senior who has been accepted into college and demonstrates both academic achievement and a dedication to community service.

- Chloe Walker — 1st Place | $15,000 Scholarship
- Ludwil Staëlka Joseph — 2nd Place | $2,500 Scholarship
These remarkable students demonstrated academic achievement, leadership, and a strong commitment to community impact, further strengthening the scholarship’s growing legacy.
A Scholarship Rooted in Purpose
The BDJ40 Scholarship is more than financial support, it is an investment in the next generation of leaders who are committed to improving their communities.
Applicants are encouraged to share their personal experiences with mental health and personal growth, reflecting on how those experiences have shaped their beliefs, relationships, and future career aspirations. Through essays, videos, and community service achievements, students demonstrate the resilience and ambition that define the scholarship’s mission.
